A Review

By Robert K. Patterson

This anime, first came out in 1998 and was re-issued in 2011 is one of my top ten anime’s of all time.  To really get the feel for this anime, you should watch both editions.  While they are both very similar, the 2011 version has more episodes and is the focus of this review.

There are seven different arcs in this series.  They are the Hunter Exam arc, the Zoldyck Family arc, the Heavens Arena arc, the Yorknew City arc, the Greed Island arc, the Chimera Ant arc and the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc (148 episodes in all).

I personally found them all to be riveting and I felt compelled to keep watching every one of them.  The Hunter Exam arc was a good introduction to the series.  It laid out the ground work for the whole series.

The series starts out with four main characters.  The two that endure throughout the series are Gon and Killua (Two kids about 12 years old).  The other two are Kurapika (a somewhat older kid) and an adult named Leorio.

As the series moves on, their abilities and challenges get better and harder.  By the time they get to the Chimera Ant arc, the challenges seem to get impossible.  This arc drags on a bit but somehow it concludes favorably except Gon nearly dies.

Everything concludes favorably when Gon and his father finally meet and most of the mysteries get resolved in the final few episodes.

For me, I found this to be a very enjoyable series and I would rate it as one of the top ten of all time.  I give this series an overall rating of 9.5 out of 10.
